Classes and Schedules

Belmont Cooperative Nursery School offers drop-off programs for children ages 2 years and 9 months to 5 years old.

Central to all of our programs is the belief that children are naturally curious and it is their curiosity that drives them to learn, think deeply and contribute powerfully to their own educational experiences.

For the 2023/24 school year our programming will be as follows:

Preschoolers (for children 2 years 9 months to 3 years 11 months old by 9/1/22):

  • The Preschoolers are in groups of 10 or 15 children with two or three teachers, respectively. This program is available in two different schedules.

    • 3/4 Day Maple Class – Monday, Wednesday, optional Thursday, and Friday mornings, from approximately 9am-12pm

    • 3 Day Oak Class – Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings, from approximately 9am-12pm

Pre-Kindergarten (for children 4 years old and up by 9/1/23):

  • The Pre-Kindergarten children are in groups of 10 or 12 children with two teachers. The program is available 5 days a week with some spots available for 4 days a week (M-Th):

    • Paper Birch Class – Monday through Friday mornings

    • Silver Birch – Monday through Friday mornings

Willow Group (small group programming available for all children enrolled at BCNS)

  • The Willow Group focuses on small group emergent curriculum. Children from our Maple, Oak, and Birch classes are grouped together to work on long-term projects with the Willow Group Guides. The Willow Group Guides work in collaboration with the classroom teachers to develop topics of interest to the children and to develop meaningful experiences for the children.

Literacy Corner (small group programming available for all children enrolled at BCNS)

  • The Literacy Corner is available for children in all of the classes. The Literacy Corner is a space where children can gather in small groups to focus on reading, writing, and drawing in a quiet and cozy environment. Children have access to our Literacy Corner teacher two days per week.

Extended Day (for children 2 years 9 months old and up by 9/1/23):

  • The Maple and Oak Classes are combined for extended day, and there are between four and eight spaces available depending on the day. 

  • The Birch Classes are combined for extended day, and there are 10 spaces each day.  

  • Sign-up in advance is strongly encouraged, but we will accept day of sign-ups if space is available.

Early Care (for children 2 years 9 months old and up by 9/1/23):

  • Early care is available for all children enrolled at BCNS and is capped at a total of 5 children per day. Early Care is available five days a week from 8:15-9am.
